Journal Entry:
Kristi at the New Zealand Herald
After the past few lax days prior we finally got to an early morning start in the lobby of the hotel Amora with Kristi, who was an educational / investigative journalist who did border line activist journalism. Her conversations and insights into the world of education in New Zealand was in direct contrast to all of the prior conversations I’ve had in New Zealand regarding politics in that she spoke at length about the severe ethnic and class inequalities between the Maori, Pacifika, and Pakeha (European settlers).

Things i learned from Kristi...
Things I learned from Kristi:
- On the news paper business:
- For content creators and journalists, networks are everything.
- The Herald is just starting to get into social media. Insights.co.nz has implemented it.
- On education coverage:
- Education in New Zealand grossly favors the rich on the north side of Auckland and Wellington.
- There is a distinct racial divid and the government keeps saying “we will work on it” but doesn’t.
- Because Pre-schools are privatized many corporations do the minimum they can to charge as a school and
not much can be done about it as the standards are still being met.
The war Museum:
After we had finished speaking with her we headed off to a memorial war museum where they had a ton of exhibits about the Maori, wars 1 and 2 and an authentic Maori cultural introduction. Just watch this recording captured by Annabelle Joyce:
