January 9th: Our Day Off in Melbourne |
Journal Entry:
Our day off began with a Bike ride down the central river in Melbourne, a wonderful lunch at a winery along the river, my second time visiting the Victoria museum, and it ended with a small basement gaming bar that had smash bros 64 on it.
The bike ride was a big highlight of group activity I have had over the course of the trip and gave us a better understanding of melbourne’s layout as a city. My teacher Pete and I headed to a winery for lunch and just enjoyed sime talking with each other on the river.

The Victorian Art Gallery
After wards I went off on my own and toured the rest of the Victorian Art Gallery I hadn’t had the time to do on the 7th. I started on the 2nd floor where I had left off with the ancient history, Asian, and byzantine artwork of the European. I saw an amazing Albrecht Durer lithography piece, and the pinnacle piece of symbolic Christian European artwork, St. Jerome by Flanders. At one point I came across 4 Rembrandts they had and started speaking with a few people about the beauty and elegance of Rembrandt in that the pieces were large but the masterwork had detail down to 1 singular hair on a brush. Before I knew it I had a host of people listening and another art student chiming in on their own. I allowed a culture to develop before my very eyes around a love for the painting greats of the renascence. |

Bartronica
Heading home I found an awesome gaming bar called bar-tronica and struck up a conversation with them about the traditional games, most notably their 64 version of Smash Bros. which I was aching to play. I headed back that night to put some time in on the system and into an amazing retro gaming bar.
